Altos is What You Do When
You Don't Know What To Do

|
Business is more ferociously competitive every day. Winning companies realize that it has become "survival of the first," not "survival of the fittest." Being right is not nearly enough. To be a winner, you have to make the right decisions before your competitors so that you rather than they capture the high margin opportunities. The "conservative" strategy (waiting for definitive cues from industry leaders, government, or the market) is actually the high risk strategy, tantamount to simply waiting for your company to be ultimately gobbled up by the winners at a discount price, sacrificing shareholder value, and enduring poor press and below-market returns along the way.
Altos helps our clients to be right first and stay right longest. Altos professionals have been providing unique, innovative, quantitative services-data, information, intelligence, and knowledge-to winning companies forthe past 25 years, services that have supported truly landmark decisions. For companies that aspire to be the winners of tomorrow, Altos can give you the high technology tools and techniques you need to forecast price, cost, and risk; exploit price differentiation as a competitive weapon; operate your facilities to realize maximum margins; and make the best possible decisions as fast as you can compared to your competitors.
Altos participation in Landmark Decisions
Altos' people have been at the vanguard of the truly tough business decisions of our generation. We have not been 'innocent bystanders' or 'outsiders' in the critical business decisions of the day. We have been proactive participants Our work has not only provided solutions for our clients but has shaped business thinking about those problems.
North American Regional Electric Model
There are over 20,000 existing generation plants of various types in disparate locations throughout North America. In order to capture profits and shareholder value, owners of those plants must optimize operation given the forward market price of electricity at their busbar less the forward market price of the fuel at their point of purchase- a price differential called a "spark spread."

World Gas Trade Model
In 1990, we began a world gas trade program that linked together a number of regional submodels to create a comprehensive, integrated World Gas Trade Model (WGTM). Since its inception, the Altos WGTM has provided answers to the critical world gas questions: In every producing basin in the world, what is the forward price of gas, and how will it evolve into the future? What volume of gas will the market be willing to absorb at that price, i.e., what is the size of the gas market at each producing basin worldwide?

North American Regional Gas Model
Producers own natural gas resources in various basins in North America. They must monetize those resources to generate profits and shareholder value, and their ability to do so depends on the forward market price in the region where they are located and the cost to produce them. Pipeline companies own gas transmission assets, and they must likewise monetize those assets to create profits and shareholder value.
